Things went disastrously wrong. It was a real mess. We tried to {compensate|address the situation, but it was like trying to stop a tsunami with a cocktail stick. We're still picking up the pieces and feeling the blow of this epic fail.

This crisis has spiraled out of control. It's a total disaster. We've tried everything to fix it, but nothing seems to function. At this point, it feels like we're toast. Honestly, I don't know what else to do. This is a mess of epic proportions.
This is So Bad, It's Funny (Not Really)
Sometimes you encounter situations so awful that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to understand the sheer magnitude of unadulterated absurdity and just resigns itself to fate, opting for laughter as a coping strategy.
But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really actually that amusing. It's just plain bad. And the laughter you felt morphs into a sigh.
After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of confusion. You start ruminating about the meaning of it all. Was this a joke?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?
A Disaster of Epic Proportions

Awful Day Ever
It all started with a case of terrible hair. I couldn't do it to look presentable. As I was dashing out the door, I trippedon and badly all over the floor. To make matters worse, I was totally running behind for school.
I in a state of utter panic. My {boss|friend|was absolutely furious. I attempted to explain, but click here it was a hopeless situation.
The rest of the day was even worse. Everything. I get anything done.
By the time I reached my destination, I was completely drained. This day, this horrific day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.
Things Went From Bad to Absolutely Terrible
It all started out badly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then things went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
